Jeremy Howard is an Australian data scientist, entrepreneur, and educator. He is the co-founder of fast.ai and a professor at the University of Queensland.
Kaggle and fast.ai
Howard was previously the President and Chief Scientist of **Kaggle**, the world's largest data science competition platform. In 2016, he co-founded fast.ai alongside Rachel Thomas with the mission of making deep learning accessible to people from all backgrounds. Fast.ai developed the `fastai` open-source library and created a series of highly successful free online courses that have trained millions of programmers.
ULMFiT and NLP Transfer Learning
In 2018, Howard co-developed **ULMFiT (Universal Language Model Fine-tuning)**. This was a major milestone in NLP, showing that language models could be pre-trained on generic text and fine-tuned on specific datasets with minimal data, a technique that directly preceded the development of modern LLMs.
