Timnit Gebru is an Eritrean-American computer scientist and researcher. She specializes in computer vision and algorithmic bias, advocating for ethical guidelines in AI research.
Academic and Corporate Work
Gebru earned her PhD at Stanford. At Google, she co-led the Ethical Artificial Intelligence team. She co-authored the famous "Stochastic Parrots" paper before her controversial departure from Google in 2020.
DAIR Institute
In 2021, Gebru founded the Distributed Artificial Intelligence Research Institute (DAIR) to conduct independent, community-focused AI research free from corporate control.
